I apologize, because I got very upset at David that evening after waiting, tired and stressed that evening as I was, for 3 hours before getting anything.

However, let's learn from that night, those of us who feel obligated to do so.

Having said that,

Grand Pa's is a very good place.
Thanks for that !

Peace

Derek gave us a couple of beers last Friday, on the house he said. That was kind of him. Grandpa's is a great place.

No matter how bad an event is organised I would come back there.

PS: I did not go to the thanksgiving so I can't say much about it.

Peace.

Mephistopheles
Derek is a businessman, he wants to make his customers happy and make a profit, so when a customer leaves, he is concerned. A part of my objective in organizing events is to help local businesses such as Grandpa's. I like Derek and I feel bad that the event couldnt be more successful for him.

Langle blamed me for his dissatisfaction and hasnt said what issues needed to be addressed. I felt I did my best considering all the technical difficulties.

Well...the food was spectacular, and the feast a true banquet. The beef and that pumpkin dish were my favorites.

I appreciated the effort, and I also appreciated David being true to form...for better or for worse...giving us all a night to remember ;-)

I'm looking forward to the Xmas Spextacular 8)

David, I quite like the first two paragraphs -very apologetic-. The rest were not necessary -Don't bring Derek into this-

I am pretty sure people in town appreciate your intentions, but you also should understand they
-we- also expect something worth the price they -we- pay.

Again, I personally appreciate all your efforts.

:-)

David, you should be careful about joining two complete clauses with a comma. You need a semicolon, a period, or a coordinating conjunction. Normally not a big deal, but . . . you are teaching English, right?

I need to apologize that the banquet was served one hour late. Yes, it would have been better if it was served earlier. I know everyone was hungry by then.

Derek wife had a baby son 3 days earlier and she arrived home from the hospital that very day, the baby boy was still in the hospital, hence understandably Derek was pre-occupied with other priorities and could not work in the kitchen until later in the afternoon. Also, Grandpa's is a Ma and Pa restaurant and is not configured for cooking so many courses and that much food for that many people. Grandpa's is a small restaurant with a small kitchen and just doesn't have the equipment for that type of banquet.

I would also like to make clear, I am a complete volunteer, I am putting on an event for the goodness of the community, I dont receive one dime for the many days of organization and 2 days of preparation and cooking. And for that reason, when you asked for your money back, you are taking it out of Derek's pocket, not mine. I offered it back with no resistance, but Im sure Derek wasnt happy.

If you wish to compare it to Shangrila, a 5 star hotel, go ahead, I really doubt that the Thanksgiving food is any better than Grandpa's. Shangrila does puts on a good buffet, so you can enjoy sushi and pizza with your turkey. And also, in the Shangrila, Thanksgiving for one person is 445 yuan and in Grandpa's it is 138 yuan, making Grandpa's a good bargain for Thanksgiving as well.

As for the event, its Thanksgiving and the spirit of Thanksgiving makes it a joyful holiday. Since I am not home with my family in New York, I can spend a nice time with friends in Changchun. And I do enjoy cooking for everybody. I really think Thanksgiving is a social holiday more than a food holiday. It a time to give thanks for how lucky we are. As it turned out, it was a good event, and almost everybody had a good time and there were many complements about the food. Both me and Derek did our best to make this a great Thanksgiving.

Well...just returned home to enjoy my own hot food, after another serious disappointment at this event...Sorry folks if David is involved it is not worth it. The money spent is better done at Shangrila. While the food is sure to be good, other issues need to be fixed. I can not say enough good things about Grandpa's . It is one of the best places for food and these events... but it needs to be addressed how David runs it. Just call me an American complainer.....

This was something I just found out today.

"The pardoning of a Thanksgiving turkey has been a presidential tradition for the past 50 years. The often-amusing White House ceremony involves the president and family sparing a turkey from slaughter, after which the broad-breasted birds are sent to a farm to live out the rest of their natural life."

Found it in the Guardian.
